Infant Formula Shortage

The infant recall notice that was announced by Abbott on February 18, 2022, continues to expand, creating a concerning shortage situation and gaining more media attention (Abbott recall letter).

Children’s Health Association (CHA) has been actively working with the FDA and highlighted some suggestions, a few of which were included in the White House Administration Fact Sheet that details additional steps the Administration is taking to address the infant formula shortage.

Further exacerbating the issue is the shortage of ExactaMix Valve Sets from Baxter (Baxter's statement) and the reality that, should the Sturgis Michigan plant be able to open by the end of May, the shortage situation is projected to continue for another 6-8 weeks as production and distribution activity ramps up.
